Established in 1979, The Institute for Wildlife Studies is a nonprofit organization that is responsible for the conservation of wildlife species, habitats and biodiversity. The organization conducts research on a variety of species, including aardwolf, island fox, mountain lion, pacific fisher, roloway monkey, wolverine and snow leopard. Additionally, it specializes in the conservation of various birds that include bald and imperial eagle, osprey, Mariana swiftlet and sage sparrow. The organization, in addition, conducts research on natural features, such as vegetation, topography, surface water and fauna. The Institute for Wildlife Studies has branches at various locations, including Arcata and Avalon, Calif., and San Diego.
